“Paws for a Cause” Charity Donations

Dog Reading with KidsWe are excited to announce “Paws for a Cause”. Merial, the manufacturer of Heartgard Plus® and Frontline Plus® (top selling heartworm & flea/tick prevention) will be donating $1 for each qualifying purchase to a charity of our choice. A qualifying purchase includes 12 doses of Heartgard Plus® and/or 6 doses of Frontline Plus® during the 2008 months of May, June, July and August. For each purchase, we will write your pet’s name on a PAW in our lobby!

The charity of Apple Grove Veterinary Care’s choice is Mid-Michigan Pet Therapy (MMPT). Our team is passionate about donating to MMPT as we all see each of our pets as tremendous “givers of love and affection” are delighted that this group shares their time, love and pets with others!

Dog with WomanMid-Michigan Pet Therapy was formed in 2005 and holds its monthly meetings at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte, MI. Each member of the group is involved in pet therapy by visiting nursing homes, hospitals, hospice or private residences with their pet. Others are involved with Therapy Dog International (TDI) “Children Reading to Dogs” program in several local schools.

All of the dogs currently involved with the MMPT program have received their Therapy Dog certification through Therapy Dog International. While having this certification is not a prerequisite to joining this volunteer group, it is encouraged.

Temperament and the willingness to be sociable are the primary qualities of a therapy pet. Size and the breed of the dog or cat are not factors. Most importantly, the pet must be gentle, friendly and enjoy being touched, hugged and petted.
